The Walk in the Spirit of Reconciliation event is an ecumenical event in partnership with the Diocese of New Westminster, Jericho Ridge Community Church, Langley Mennonite Fellowship Church, Mennonite Central Committee BC, Mennonite Church British Columbia, Mt. Lehman United Church, St Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, The Gathering
Church, United Churches of Langley, and Willoughby Christian Reformed Church.
It was started in 2016 by a small group of churches in Langley to promote healing from the harm done by colonization and residential schools. They have been inviting people to walk on the last weekend in May every year since the Truth and Reconciliation Commission released its final report in 2015.
We walk on this beautiful land between Fort Langley and Mission, on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples - the S’ólh Téméxw (Stó:lō peoples land), specifically sq̓əc̓iy̓aɁɬ təməxʷ (Katzie), Kwantlen, Leq’ á:mel, Màthexwi, Semiahmoo, and Whonnock First Nations. We recognize that the Stó:lō people have called this place home since time immemorial, and we hope that our walk honours them, their land, their river, their ancestors and their children.
